Be The Change You Want To See

“Some people just work, breathe, and die”
It may be hard to face the reality of the quote above but let’s be real, there’s some validity to it. Some people live on Earth to breathe, work, and eventually die out. This isn’t the life I want to live and I hope this is not the life you want for yourself either.
It may be a harsh reality to look in the mirror and say to yourself, “What do I want to do in my life?”. The answer isn’t as straightforward as choosing what shoes to wear in the morning or deciding which milk to buy at the grocery store (almond milk all day every day, you know the drill, Bing bong).
But the best response I have is to be the change you want to see. If you are someone who seeks to create a life where your dreams are fulfilled, be the change you want to see.
You may start to think differently from your friends or the people who are around you the most. You’ll have high aspirations for something and start talking to others about it and people will tell you “to be realistic” about yourself. They’ll start to say you can’t make certain things happen because of a lack of resources. I understand this can be true in many cases, but it’s more about the effort aspect. You have to recognize that nobody may fully get what you are thinking and what you want to achieve. As you continue to grow these same people may never get it — sometimes it be like that.
Haven’t you always wondered how new things are created, updated and evolving all around us? While many components are involved, I think it fundamentally comes down to the ability to think differently (wow, big reveal I know).
Someone was brave enough to try something new to see what would work. Someone was willing to try an approach that was unique from the norm. And someone dared to be wrong a bunch of times until they finally got it right. Why can’t that be you?
Why do you have to do, think, and say what everyone else is doing? (I’m not saying you are specifically, don’t come for me in the comments). Society is set up in a way where majorities and popular opinions tend to set a precedent for what everyone should think or say, but this isn’t how we have to see change come about all the time.
People go against the norm… and it works. There are countless examples where individuals are seen to be uncomfortable, struggle in broad daylight, and face numerous hardships until finally, something sticks and the rest falls into place right after.
Naturally, you’ll hear people say “you’re crazy” because you want to think differently and do something unconventional to most. Remember this: change comes from modification, alterations, or replacements, and although you may be alone in the process, it doesn’t mean it’s not possible.
You can’t expect things to happen for you if you’re not completely about it yourself. People call you crazy because you believe in what you can do? Forget that whole “will people vibe with or like if I do this” mentality. Be the change you want to see and the rest will sort itself out.
If you have an idea and believe you can take it somewhere, go all out, 100%. Remember you are allowed to have an opinion for yourself. Not the opinion of your mum, the aunty who asks who your BF/GF is every Christmas or your barber who has a new philosophical theory every time they cut your hair. You control your narrative, so make the decisions you want to see. You don’t need the approval of the world to make change happen. You need faith and confidence that your desire to be different is good enough — that your goals are attainable by way of your choices and decisions.

As hard as it may be at times to hear that our future is truly in our own hands, this article is very encouraging to take a leap of faith. Many of us are aware that to see changes in our lives, we have to take action despite what others may think or suggest. Definitely made me reflect about creating change in my life, and understand that the work I put in is a direct influence of what I will get out of it. While this article is very eye opening, I also enjoy the subtle jokes that allowed me to receive the message in a positive way. Great work!
